Participating at Discover Architecture 2011 SUMMER PROGRAM allowed me to enhance my knowledge in the field of Architecture, which ranged from the typical view of what Architecture is, along with Landscape Architecture, which many people are not aware of. It also allowed me to experience a taste of the level of work, dedication, and time [...]

So far we have completed pretty much everything. We have typed up all the information about our assigned buildings, designed it on illustrator, used photo shop to perfect the photos, and now doing the finishing touches to everything. I must admit it was a little stressful working with people because there were multiple ideas thrown [...]

Storefront model making project Friday was a fun day because we were split into three groups and got a chance to make a model of how each group envisioned the store front. By them putting us in these little groups we were able to come up with more ideas than we could have come up [...]

Yesterday, Wednesday July 20th, has gone down in the records as the hottest day in six years with 100 degree temperatures across the Chicagoland area. However, our workspace is inside the wonderfully air-conditioned Flat Iron building, so the weather presented no challenge…to at least to some of us. After days of brainstorming ideas about our [...]

Many people get the impression of South Shore as an unsafe place to be, and most if not all have not visited South Shore. So where did they get this impression from? From the media; we hear from the news the negative events in neighborhoods such as South Shore. The media is so busy informing [...]

During our second week, each of us was assigned at least one of the 17 stops from the tour. These destinations were to become our “babies”, and we’re to find out as much as we can about the history behind them. The stop I was assigned was the Mosque Maryam, located at 7351 South Stony [...]

I am one of the 15 students working for the Chicago architecture foundation, and the south shore tourist center. Our goal is to change a storefront in to a tourist center, with different ideas that we have giving. This Program has opened my eyes, it showed me things I have never seen. I have learned [...]

Even though I’m a little familiar with South Shore I never knew how historical it was. Within two days of the CAF (Chicago Architecture Foundation) program I’ve went from being interested to being outstandingly impressed about the historical learning to the people who also enjoy what I like as well. Picture to picture, South Shore’s [...]

I’ve never really paid attention to buildings and the different art and history on buildings in my community. I’m sure this is the same with most teens and adults. No one really pays attention to the importance of neighborhoods. Which lives there, who has visited there, or even what’s in the community? I think most [...]

On our first visit to South Shore we got to meet a very important person to the community, Mr. English. We had heard a lot about Mr. English within our first two days at work, and were finally getting the opportunity to meet him. A first impression that our group had was that Mr. English [...]

The first day was not the most interesting day, but it was an experience to endure. The first thing we did was getting introduced to each other to get a more comfortable feel. Then the group met Krisann and she displayed how she wanted the youth to get involved in the South Shore Community. She [...]
